What you will learn in this program
In this course you will go through the pre-processing and post-processing of a nonlinear transient model. You will:
- Build and represent the physical structure of the model including basic meshing, shell thickness definition, and element definition
- Define nonlinear material definition
- Define constraints, boundary conditions, and initial conditions
- Define contacts
- Be introduced to the concept of timestep for explicit time integration (“conditionally stable”)
- Define output measurements
- Post process the model
Individuals will then be able to make modifications to this model in order to practice the skills presented during the tutorials. Finally, participants will build an entirely new model with minimal guidance in order to learn additional LS-DYNA features as well as to continue practicing the required skills.
Course Offering Schedule
Individuals may enroll at any time. All coursework must be completed during (14) consecutive calendar days, begining on the date a person registers and pays.
What to expect
- During registration, students provide a date that they would like to begin the course.
- Allow 1-2 business days after registering for activation of your OSU username before course access can be made available.
- All course materials and lecture videos are recorded and available to you online, 24/7.
- Students have access to the course for a period of (14) consecutive calendar days. Staff from the SIMCenter will be available to answer course related questions via email during this time.
Expected Time Commitment to Complete this Course
Participants should allocate approximately 14-20 hours for course completion.
There are no prerequisites for this course, although a bachelor's degree in engineering or a related field is strongly recommended.
Software and Hardware Requirements
Individuals taking this short course will use LS-PrePost, a pre and post processing software offered by LSTC, to build and analyze models that are intended to be solved using LS-DYNA. This software can be downloaded free at lstc.com.
Individuals should plan to use their own LS-DYNA solver license to run problems during the course. Although it is strongly recommended to have access to the solver license so that individuals can run their own models, results are included in the course and can be downloaded. Individuals will not be able to generate their own results from the models that they build throughout the course without a software license and will be limited to the results provided in the course.
Individuals will need access to a laptop or desktop. The models presented in this course are small; therefore, no special graphical or memory requirements are necessary. To access the online course, computers should be PC (Windows 7+) or Linux workstation with high-speed internet connection. A version of LS-PrePost is available for current Mac OS in Beta only.
LSPrePost can be downloaded for Windows, Linux, and MacOS. LS-DYNA solver licenses are available for Windows and Linux. Refer to LSTC’s download website for more details concerning available software.
