Course Description

This five-hour self-paced course is designed to help assistive technology (AT) professionals make the right decision when bringing assistive technology into the life of a person with a disability. This course will introduce you to various assistive technology assessment models, methods to match features of the technology to the abilities of the person, methods for appropriately implementing technology at the right time and in the right way, and tools for assistive technology assessment for people on the autism spectrum.

The AT Assessment Course consists of 5 modules which cover the following topics:

  • Intro to AT Assessment Models 
  • AT Feature Matching 
  • AT Implementation 
  • AT Implementation – Coaching Perspective 
  • Tools for AT Assessment for People with ASD

Learning Objectives

By the end of this course students will:

  • Be aware of the different types of assistive technology assessment models;
  • Learn the fundamental concepts of how to match features of the technology to the skills and abilities of the person with the disability;
  • Be aware of tools needed to match features of technology to the needs of students on the autism spectrum;
  • Learn how to implement assistive technology into the lives of people with disabilities;
  • Be aware of tools for appropriate assistive technology implementation from a coaching perspective.

Continuing Education Information:

This course can be taken for CEU credit if you choose. To receive CEU credit, there is a two step process you need to follow:

1. Complete the Course

Once you purchase this course, you will have access to the course content for one year (365 days) from the date of purchase. During those 365 days, you will be able to participate in and complete the course for CEU credit. After 365 days, your course access will expire and you will not be able to complete the course for CEU credit.

2. Apply for CEU Credit

Upon completion of the course, you will have access to a downloadable course outline, and receive a certificate of course completion via e-mail. You may use these documents when applying for CEU credit. You may choose to obtain CEUs at your discretion. Completion of the course does not guarantee CEU credit.
